Comprehensive auto insurance coverage is a must if you have a late model or valuable older-model vehicle.

Most states require you to carry some level of liability insurance, which pays for any damage you cause someone else in an accident. Some states also require you to buy Medical Payment (MedPay) or Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage to pay for injuries sustained in an accident.

Comprehensive auto insurance, on the other hand, is not required by law (although it might be required by your loan company). So do you need to get it?

In answer to that question, just consider the many hazards a comprehensive auto policy protects you from:

* Theft

* Hail damage

* Flood damage

* Fire damage

* Accidents involving animals

Basically, any damage to your car that is not caused by a collision can be covered under the comprehensive portion of your policy. (You usually buy comprehensive insurance along with collision insurance, which covers your car from damage sustained in an accident).

Who Should Buy Comprehensive Insurance

You should typically carry comprehensive insurance on your vehicle if ...

* It is less than five years old

* You owe more on your car than you could sell it for

* You would be unable to buy another car if your current car is totaled

On the other hand, you should consider dropping comprehensive coverage if the cost of your insurance is more than the value of your car plus the amount of your deductible.

Finding a Cheap Comprehensive Policy

To find a cheap comprehensive policy, search for quotes at an insurance comparison website. Here you can get quotes from multiple companies at the same time, making it easy to comparison shop.

Also pay attention to your deductible. The deductible is the amount you pay to repair or replace your car when it's damaged. The higher you set your deductible, the lower your premium will be.

For instance, increasing your deductible from $250 to $1,000 can save you up to 50% on your premium.

Auto insurance is large part of being a responsible vehicle owner. However, auto insurance policies seem to be written in the most confusing terms possible. This article can help you to better understand what all of those terms mean. By understanding the terms of the auto insurance world, you will be a more informed consumer.

When you do change insurance companies, cancel your old policy in writing, and save a copy for your records. If your cancellation by phone does not get properly recorded by an insurance employee, and you ignore the next bill that comes, you could be reported as someone who has been terminated by the insurer for non-payment. Having an insurance policy terminated for non-payment has credit consequences.

In order to keep your auto insurance premiums low, make certain you are a cautious driver. If you are able to go for long periods of time without getting a ticket or having an accident, you will probably by eligible for safe driver discounts. This savings can really add up over time, and you may even get a larger discount every year you do not get into an accident or get a ticket. Also, doing this will prevent your premiums for getting higher.

It is always possible to purchase additional coverage in excess of what the law requires. Even though these may cost you a bit more, the peace of mind they will give you will be worth it. One good add-on is uninsured motorist coverage, which protects you if you get into an accident with someone who does not have insurance.

You must understand your state's rules about car insurance. Before purchasing any type of auto insurance policy, it is important to know what the requirements are for your state; each state is a little different.

Be sure to consider the cost of insurance when buying a car. Your agent can tell you which cars receive a lower premium because of safety or security features. Sports cars garner higher insurance premiums, than other vehicles on the market. Be sure the premiums for your new car fit comfortably into your budget.

In many states, all drivers are required to purchase adequate liability insurance. You should check the legal requirements for the state where you live, and make sure that your coverage meets the established minimum. If your vehicle is not insured when you are in an accident, there will not only be serious financial consequences, but there will also be consequences from your local authorities.

Insurance is the ultimate protection against any type of accident or disaster happening to your car. A deductible is what you have to pay towards the repair of your vehicle.

Unless you have a claim for more than $25,000 you should not hire an attorney or file a lawsuit. It is better to focus on making a settlement with your insurance company's claims adjuster. The costs associated with using an attorney often makes any benefits they can provide not worth the trouble.

It is important to promptly remove anyone who no longer drives your vehicle, from your policy. Removing a child from your policy will help to lower your monthly premium payment. Always keep the amount of covered drivers to a minimum for your household. Only pay for those that must be covered and you will save on your yearly costs.

Senior citizens are responsible for a high percentage of accidents which occur during daylight hours. This affects auto insurance rates as well as one's ability to secure coverage.

Consider taking off the coverage of a rental in your policy. It is most likely a paid expense that you rarely, if ever, use. You will save money if you decide to drop it, but you must remember that there may come a time when you might need it.

Get quotes from a few different insurance carriers before you settle on a policy. Chances are you'll need to look around to find the best deal.

Compile a list of every discount your company offers, and then carefully go through that list to see which ones you are qualified for. Discounts show how much you could save, which could be surprising.

The best way to keep your insurance down is to avoid tickets and accidents. A car accident can bump up your rates faster than anything else. Avoid dangerous situations and know your driving limits to ensure you stay safe and pay less. If you have poor night vision, avoid driving at night.

Many different things come into play when determining your auto insurance rates. Some of these factors include your age, gender and marital status. If you are aware of the factors involved and how they factor into the rate calculations, you can be a much savvier shopper.

The world of auto insurance is full of technical jargon that can be hard to understand. By gaining a good grasp on those words and terms, you can make an informed decision about any auto insurance policy. If you're as informed as you can be, purchasing insurance can actually be a good experience.

Car insurance can be one of the most expensive parts of owning a vehicle if you do not search for the best rate. Whether you are looking for the mandatory state minimum amount of insurance or full coverage on your vehicle, it is always best to search for the lowest price from a trusted company.

There are many different insurance companies that will give you a price quote for your insurance online. They will ask you for a lot of information that is essential to get accurate affordable auto insurance quotes. Some of it may seem unnecessary, but it is important that you answer all of their questions.

Companies that are giving you a quote for your automobile will take into consideration many factors. Some companies have different qualifications than others. Age, marital status, number of accidents and past moving violations are all part of the criteria they use to make a decision about your quote. The insurance company will also ask for the year, make, model, and possibly the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of your vehicle.

Insurance companies will also check your credit score. People with a low credit score tend to be involved in more accidents than people with good credit. Insurance companies will base your insurance quote partly on what your credit score is, the higher the score the lower your insurance rate will be.

Many people are concerned about a potentially negative impact to their credit when they request affordable auto insurance quotes. What these people are unaware of is that the report that the insurance companies run is considered a 'soft' hit on your credit. This type of hit on your credit will not negatively impact your credit score, no matter how many vehicle insurance quotes you might request.

There are companies who offer customers the benefit of representing several different insurance companies. Therefore, if you're looking for affordable auto insurance quotes, the one company can get quotes for you from several different insurers and save you a lot of looking. Of course, if you find a company who is offering you a very low rate, check into the reputation of the insurance company before buying.

What most of us know is that we are required to have auto insurance if we intend to own and license a vehicle. Based on that we locate an insurance source and generally purchase what the agent tell us we need. Now that is not to say there are some who are a little more astute when it comes to purchasing car insurance or folks that just get lucky.

The insurance industry has convinced us that learning the basic facts are over our head and that we have to trust their judgment. Well I am here to tell you that is just not so and experience tells me so.

I am like most of you. In the past have just paid the premium every six months for whatever coverage my agent or carrier told me I needed. Recently I had to learn a hard lesson about car insurance and the lesson has not sat well. Part of the outcome was learning how ignorant and trusting I have been. For all intents and purposes, it appears I am not the only person who is in that boat.

If you have an unlimited source of income, or don't know and do not want to know, what I am about to tell you will probably not be of interest! However, you might even still find some of the facts interesting if not frustrating.

If you have the inclination you might want to go on the internet and go to your appropriate state website and download and read the motor vehicle code and auto insurance statutes that apply to you. For the most part it is written in layman's terms and fairly easy to understand.

Because of my recent third-party claim's experience with USAA I have had to learn far more about the auto insurance industry than I wanted to know and in particular how it applies to where I live, in Florida. Starting with the basics, my research begin with how the state of Florida 2010 statutes defined car insurance.

It reads: Coverage for motorized land vehicles (e.g., passenger type automobiles, pickups, vans, trucks and motorcycles). The coverage can include loss or damage to the vehicle itself (evaluated at replacement or repair damage cost, actual cash value, or agreed value). It can also include loss, liability, or expense as a result of ownership, maintenance or use of any such vehicle. The coverage also includes medical, hospital and surgical benefits to injured persons, funeral and death benefits to survivors irrespective of legal liability if incurred while in, upon, entering into, alighting from, or being struck by a vehicle if such coverage is issued as part of a liability insurance contract.

In my case, USAA appears to have a problem evaluating at the replacement or repair cost, the actual cash value, or agreed value of my Jeep. They have refused to consider loss, liability or expense as a result of ownership, maintenance or use of any vehicle. USAA has gone so far, on several occasions, to actually threaten me if I did not relinquish the title immediately.

I do not know a lot about insurance companies in general but can tell you that USAA doesn't particularly care one way or another about the physical condition of your vehicle or any upgrades or improvements you have made.

Another lesson learned is the cold hard facts relating to the depreciated value of a car. Depreciation calculators become your very best friend. While they differ in techniques, the primary factor considered in determining the value of your vehicle is the manufacture date. Another factor which may be requested is the odometer reading. Some sources will take into account exterior and interior physical condition and accessories included on the vehicle. But, you can get close to the value with little information.

The depreciation value is important for several reasons, the first being it will assist you in purchasing the correct amount of insurance for your vehicle. Another is that if you decide to sell your vehicle you can learning the -trade-in- value, versus the sell-off-the-street value.

USAA, with its close mindedness and blinders appears to recognize only a car manufacture date.

Read -Part 2- to learn how important depreciation value is to your vehicle and insurance coverage.

When you get into a car accident, the last thing you want to think of is the fact that you don't have car insurance. It's so important that most states legally mandate you to have it to operate your vehicle. Picking the optimal one for you can be difficult, though. Should you prioritize the best possible or the cheapest? This article will help you find the car insurance plan that is best for you.

Check the rates of different car insurance companies every year. Prices fluctuate often, and your current car insurance plan might not be the best value. Shop around online, and talk to car insurance agents over the phone to make sure you are getting the best deal on car insurance.

When you first get your policy, make sure that you carefully review it to note any mistakes or inaccuracies. Seemingly little errors, such as listing incorrect mileage or an incorrect model, can often have large consequences for your wallet! Carefully screen your policy to ensure that all the information listed is correct.

Consider the effect on your insurance premium before purchasing a new vehicle. Auto insurance rates are based on numerous factors, including the likelihood of theft and the cost of repairs. Even if the purchase price on a vehicle is reasonable, if it is a commonly stolen model or one that is expensive to repair, you may find yourself paying considerably more in insurance premiums.

Perhaps you cannot afford to pay much for your auto insurance, but remember that it is a legal requirement to have insurance in order to drive a car. If you get pulled over and cannot prove that you have auto insurance, you will get a fine. Get an extremely cheap car insurance if you need to.

The best thing that you can do if you want to get cheap rates on your car insurance is to keep a clear license. People with bad driving records automatically get higher monthly payments because they are more likely to get into an accident. Safe drivers automatically get lower monthly payments.

Whenever possible, include your spouse on your automobile policy as a named insured driver. It is quite common for insurers to view married couples as more stable and a better risk than single drivers. Therefore, you are likely to receive a healthy discount on a policy that covers both husband and wife.

If you want to avoid paying a high premium, don't drive a flashy car. Sports cars and other high performance vehicles, often have premiums that are two or three times larger than that of a standard car. You should also research commonly stolen vehicles and be sure to avoid them. Most insurance companies will charge significantly more to insure these types of cars.

Make sure that you take unnecessary drivers off of your automobile insurance policy. If there is someone on your policy that does not drive one of your vehicles any more, let your insurance company know right away. This change will reduce the amount of money you pay in insurance rates each month.

When considering extras for your auto insurance, you can most likely do without the car rental insurance. You will pay nearly $50 a year for rental insurance, when that is the same cost for renting a car for one to two days. Also, your rental car is most likely already covered under your policy, anyhow.

Don't drive without car insurance. It can be a big gamble, and it's also illegal. This article should have pointed you in the direction you need to figure out what car insurance is best for you. While your financial situation may force you to pick something less than optimal, the tips given here will help you understand your policy and select the plan that's right for you.

It's no secret, California is a big state with millions of drivers puttering around on a daily basis. With such volume comes a certain number of accidents. That is why the State of California has made it mandatory for everyone operating a vehicle to have car insurance.

However, auto insurance can be tricky business. If a potential buyer isn't careful, they could end up paying extremely high premiums for very basic coverage. Nearly 25% of drivers have either inadequate or no car insurance whatsoever.

Enter the CLCAIP

Commonly known as the CLCAIP, the California Low Cost Automobile Insurance Program was setup to give people who are financially struggling the opportunity to get a decent coverage plan at a very affordable rate. Currently, people can start be covered for as little as $22.00 per month through the CLCAIP.

The numbers are astounding. In 2009, the program received around 7,000 applications, which was 1,000 more than the year before. In 2011, the program received over 25,000 applications which indicates exponential growth.

Why California needed the CLCAIP

When the financial crisis hit in 2008, a lot of people lost the ability to afford their current premiums. Steve Poizner, the Insurance Commissioner, saw this as an opportunity to start a service that could help people get proper coverage at a rate most families could afford. Its goal is to offer allow people to be legally insured for less than a 15% down payment alongside minimal monthly payments.

However, to be accepted into the program, an applicant must meet certain requirements. They are easy to meet and consist of:

Must have a clean driving record. The applicant cannot have more than a single at at-fault accident

Must not have any driving related felonies or misdemeanors arrests in the past 3 years.

The eligibility limit for a single person is $27,075. For two people its $36,425 and for a family of four its $55,125.

The car being insured cannot be valued at over $20,000

Despite the growing number of applications, the CLCAIP is in danger of being closed down. Accord to governor Schwarzenegger's office, the program isn't popular enough to keep funding and vetoed a bipartisan legislation increasing the program's yearly budget due to a low rate of participation.

The fate of the program remains unknown, however, the need for such a program remains. It's illegal to drive without insurance and offering people the chance to get full coverage at an affordable rate is something that Californians should keep benefiting from.

Obviously, when you need protection for your vehicle, car insurance will be the first option that comes to your mind. You can look for other product. But it is certainly challenging to do so and it can take up a lot of your resources by taking this route. Furthermore, auto insurance is a must. So why not capitalize on this and take up a good car insurance policy for your family?

Regarding your auto insurance, you may have easily overlooked a few points that are important though checks were made before. At times, we need a fresh pair of eyes to check things for us. There are times when we are blinded to the mistakes we make. And this can happen to your application form. What you can do is get someone to go through your work. A family member or a friend you trust will be a very good candidate. In this case, you will have someone accompanying you and things will not get too boring. At times, fatigue may set in too.

Third party insurance and comprehensive package are two of the three options you have to insure your car. The good thing about a comprehensive insurance is the range of coverage it provides. Not only will the insurance company pay for the necessary compensation you have to make, it will also offer to repair your car at any of the affiliated workshops available in case it gets damaged by any cause. And if your car is stolen, the insurer will assess what the market value of your car is and write a cheque to compensate you for the loss.

There are different claims you can make, based on what is written in the policy document. But there are exclusions too. This is a piece of literature filled with legal terms and conditions that are binding to both the insurer and the insured. Some legal professionals crafted this piece of document. As such, it is legally binding and the insurer has to do all they promise no matter whether they like it or not. Thus it will be good to find out what each line in the document says. As a last resort, you can reach the insurer by phone. Then and only then will you be able to find out different things you want to know.

Life insurance is not the same as car insurance. Unfortunately car insurance renewal does not require the same thinking process as when you were getting some form of health insurance or life insurance. And if the vehicle you drive is not common within your country, there will be more differences. In order to cover your protection requirement, you need to look out for riders you may not have encountered. In case bad things happen, you can have the assurance that your money in the bank will be safe. As this is within your interest, you must treat this with care.

The question that many car owners have in their mind about car insurance is never answered. It is possible that they do not know what to ask to they can have deeper insight. If this is you, then there is a good idea here you can use. Compile all the questions and email them to the insurer.
